Founded in 1930 by Mr Lee Ah Hock, Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice started its humble beginnings as a food cart parked at Clyde Terrace Market “铁巴刹” before making its way to the now iconic 229 Jalan Besar shophouse. As an immigrant from Hainan, China, Mr Lee dedicated his work to serving labourers with a modest meal of rice, curry and chap chye (mixed vegetables) at affordable prices.

Since then, Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice has been passed on for 4 generations and is a household name that has won numerous awards. The brand currently enjoys an international celebrity following, who swear by its authentic 2-sauce recipe.
